1885, Saskatchewan, nord-ouest du Canada. Louis Riel, chef du peuple métis du Canada, un groupe mixte d'ascendance autochtone et européenne, est condamné à mort, reconnu coupable de haute trahison pour avoir pris les armes contre le gouvernement canadien. A partir de ses journaux de prison, nous l'accompagnons dans son quotidien, alors qu'il se prépare à la mort. Un portrait qui nous fait découvrir le combat politique, le sacrifice et la poésie d'un personnage fascinant devenu un mythe fondateur du Canada.

Louis Riel, leader of the Métis people of Canada, a mixed group of indigenous and European ancestry, is sentenced to death, found guilty of high treason for having taken up arms against the Canadian government. Based on his prison diaries, we accompany him in his daily life, while he prepares for death. A portrait that makes us discover the political struggle, sacrifice and poetry of a fascinating character who has become a founding myth of Canada.
